On an ingredient list, it is also not another name for the Xylitylglucoside-Anhydroxylitol-Xylitol blend found in some moisturising formulas. That blend contains three components, whereas this name refers to xylitylglucoside alone. The distinction matters when comparing labels or looking for evidence about a particular ingredient.
XYLITYLGLUCOSIDE: what it does in cosmetics
In cosmetics, Xylitylglucoside is used as a humectant and skin-conditioning ingredient. As a humectant, it is selected to support the presence of water in the skin's outermost layer; in everyday terms, ingredients in this role aim for a less rough, more comfortable skin feel, especially in lotions, serums, and creams.
A study in 18 people examined one application of a cream containing Xylitylglucoside-Anhydroxylitol-Xylitol and reported changes in skin microrelief after eight hours. It tested the blend rather than xylitylglucoside on its own and involved companies connected with the ingredients and imaging device. It therefore does not show that this component alone treats dryness, wrinkles, or any skin condition.
