In hair products, it may be selected for its conditioning effect: helping support hair that feels more pleasant and is easier to arrange after use. Its antimicrobial and anti-seborrhoeic classifications also explain its interest in scalp-oriented formulas, where controlling oiliness and microorganisms is part of the product's intended use.
The research found for the plant does not turn that cosmetic interest into a treatment. One study isolated a protease from the leaves and observed antibacterial activity in the laboratory; the tested material was not the volatile oil, and the experiment did not assess shampoo, scalp use, or people. This ingredient therefore does not establish treatment for dandruff, infections, or skin disease.
