In cosmetics, potassium iodide is classified as an antimicrobial. That role concerns controlling the growth of micro-organisms; it does not mean that the ingredient is there to soften skin, add fragrance or create an oily finish. Its presence alone does not show the amount used or determine how a particular product will perform.
