It is not a botanical extract or an oil identified by the label. The name describes a substance made by esterification, so it should not be confused with Polyglyceryl-3 Caprate, which contains caprate in its name and is a different ingredient. A commercial grade may use different raw-material sources; the ingredient list alone does not identify them.
POLYGLYCERYL-3 CAPRYLATE: what it does in cosmetics
In a formula, Polyglyceryl-3 Caprylate is an emulsifying surfactant: it helps water-based and oily components stay dispersed together. For someone using the product, that can support a more even-looking lotion, liquid product, or deodorant instead of a mixture that separates readily.
It is also listed for deodorant use, meaning it can be included in products designed to manage body odour. That is not the same as reducing perspiration, and it does not show that the ingredient on its own treats odour as a medical condition. The published safety assessment for the polyglyceryl fatty-acid ester family includes this compound, but it is not a clinical performance study of a particular deodorant.
