The word “nonfat” matters because the milk is skimmed before it is dried. This makes the ingredient different from whole milk powder and from isolated dairy ingredients such as milk proteins or lactose. The ingredient list alone cannot identify the farm, animal breed, or milk supply used for a particular cosmetic product.
NONFAT DRY MILK: what it does in cosmetics
In cosmetics, nonfat dry milk may be included for skin and hair conditioning. In everyday terms, conditioning refers to helping the surface feel softer and less rough; in a hair product, it can also support a more pleasant feel on the strands after use.
That is a formula-finish role, not a treatment claim. The literature search located food, processing, and an enriched oral-mixture study, rather than a clinical topical study of nonfat dry milk used on its own. Its presence therefore does not establish treatment for acne, dark spots, wounds, wrinkles, or diseases of the skin or scalp.
