In a cosmetic product, microcrystalline wax can add bulk and control viscosity, helping a product stay thicker and hold its shape rather than run. It can also help bind components in the base and support a more uniform emulsion, which matters when water and oil need to remain evenly distributed during use.
A study of liquid-paraffin organogels made with several waxes, including microcrystalline wax, measured friction on an artificial skin surface. It provides context for how the wax can affect the texture of a mixture, but it does not show a direct skin benefit or test a finished cosmetic on people. It is therefore best understood as a structure- and feel-building ingredient.
