MADECASSOSIDE: what it does in cosmetics
In cosmetics, MADECASSOSIDE is listed as an antioxidant and skin-conditioning ingredient. As an antioxidant, it can help limit oxidation processes within the formula; as a skin-conditioning ingredient, it is used to support a softer, more comfortable skin feel, depending on the finished product.
Laboratory research has examined isolated madecassoside in skin cells, but that setting does not reproduce everyday cosmetic use in people. One six-month trial in 20 women tested a topical preparation containing 5% vitamin C and 0.1% madecassoside; because both actives were used together, the findings cannot assign changes in appearance or hydration to madecassoside alone.
