Jojoba Esters are a complex blend of esters made from jojoba oil, hydrogenated jojoba oil, or a combination of both. Jojoba is the common name for Simmondsia chinensis, an accepted plant species in GBIF. The ingredient therefore comes from jojoba-derived raw material, but it is not simply unmodified jojoba oil.

Jojoba Esters are a complex blend of esters made from jojoba oil, hydrogenated jojoba oil, or a combination of both. The blend results from transesterification or interesterification, processes that rearrange the esters in jojoba-derived raw materials. That origin distinguishes Jojoba Esters from Simmondsia chinensis Oil on a label: the first name identifies the resulting ester blend after processing, whereas the second refers to jojoba oil itself.
JOJOBA ESTERS: what it does in cosmetics
In cosmetics, Jojoba Esters are used as skin-conditioning emollients. In everyday terms, that role is intended to make the skin's surface feel softer and smoother, while supporting the comfortable slip of a cream, lotion, or other leave-on product. They are also listed for moisturising and soothing purposes.
One pilot study in people tested a lotion combining glycerol with hydrolyzed jojoba esters; the combination showed lower skin water loss than glycerol alone after 8 and 24 hours. That result does not establish the same effect for Jojoba Esters on their own: the tested material was hydrolyzed and used with another ingredient, rather than as a single active.
