A small human study followed an emulsion containing 5% Hippophae rhamnoides extract for 84 days and reported better hydration and transepidermal water-loss measurements than the base emulsion. The finding applies to that formulation and 13 healthy men, so it does not show that every product containing this ingredient will perform the same way or support treatment claims.
