GLUCONOLACTONE: what it does in cosmetics
In cosmetics, gluconolactone may be included to support a comfortable skin feel and a well-conditioned appearance. It also has a chelating use: it can bind trace metal ions. That binding is a chemical property of the ingredient and relates to how a formula behaves; it is not a medical-performance promise.
One human study assessed a serum based on 5% gluconolactone for 30 days; the whole serum, rather than isolated gluconolactone, was compared with a different procedure. Its findings therefore cannot promise that every product containing the ingredient will reduce redness or treat acne, wrinkles, dark spots, or other conditions. The experience depends on the formula and how it is used.
