CETYL-PG HYDROXYETHYL PALMITAMIDE
CETYL-PG HYDROXYETHYL PALMITAMIDE is a synthetic pseudo-ceramide, designed with structural features that resemble ceramides found in the outermost layer of skin. Technical literature also calls it SLE66 and Ceramide SL; these names identify the same compound, not a plant extract or a ceramide taken directly from skin.

CETYL-PG HYDROXYETHYL PALMITAMIDE: what it is
CETYL-PG HYDROXYETHYL PALMITAMIDE is a synthetic pseudo-ceramide, designed with structural features that resemble ceramides found in the outermost layer of skin. Technical literature also calls it SLE66 and Ceramide SL; these names identify the same compound, not a plant extract or a ceramide taken directly from skin.
The molecule combines two long fatty chains with groups that can interact with water, a design that helps explain its affinity for lipid arrangements. It was developed from a model of a stratum-corneum ceramide, yet it is not identical to naturally occurring ceramides: it is a synthetic alternative. Seeing this name on an ingredient list therefore does not identify the source of any other lipids or ceramides in the product.
CETYL-PG HYDROXYETHYL PALMITAMIDE: what it does in cosmetics
In cosmetics, it is used for skin conditioning. In everyday terms, that means supporting a formula intended to leave skin feeling softer and less rough, particularly in care products that combine water, humectants, and lipids. The result a person notices depends on the amount used and on the whole formula; the ingredient alone does not turn an ordinary cosmetic into dermatological treatment.
A clinical trial evaluated a spray containing this pseudo-ceramide together with glycerin, cholesterol, eucalyptus leaf extract, and other components. After four weeks, it reported findings related to water loss in an area with a more impaired barrier, but the study tested the complete formulation. It does not show that CETYL-PG HYDROXYETHYL PALMITAMIDE alone treats dermatitis, itching, or any skin disease.
