In a formula, it can serve as an emollient for skin conditioning and as an emulsifying surfactant that helps bring otherwise separate phases together. It is also used for emulsion stabilisation, hair conditioning and slip modification, connecting the ingredient to both emulsion structure and the movement of the formula.
