Its long chain helps explain its more structured consistency and its affinity for the oily phase of creams and lotions. The compound can also be made through biotechnology: a study of modified Crambe abyssinica roots detected arachidyl alcohol among the fatty alcohols produced.
ARACHIDYL ALCOHOL: what it does in cosmetics
In creams, lotions, and richer-textured products, arachidyl alcohol works as an emollient, helping the product leave a less rough, softer feel. It also supports the structure of an emulsion, helping water and oily components remain more evenly dispersed over the product's shelf life.
Viscosity control means a formula can be less runny and have a more substantial body, which may make the cosmetic easier to spread or dispense. This is a texture and formulation-stability role, not a treatment for acne, wrinkles, dark spots, or other skin conditions.
