ACRYLAMIDE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYLTAURATE COPOLYMER
Acrylamide/Sodium Acryloyldimethyltaurate Copolymer is a synthetic polymer: a long chain made from acrylamide and sodium acryloyldimethyltaurate units. It does not come from a plant, oil, or mineral. It is added as a structure-building material that can give an aqueous phase more body and help a mixture stay uniform.

The word acrylamide in the name can be confusing, but this copolymer is not isolated acrylamide. It is a macromolecule made by joining smaller units together. That distinction matters because the ingredient is used for its physical effect on texture and formula organization, rather than as a skin-care active.
ACRYLAMIDE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYLTAURATE COPOLYMER: what it does in cosmetics
In lotions, creams, and gels, Acrylamide/Sodium Acryloyldimethyltaurate Copolymer helps control viscosity—how runny or thick a product feels when it leaves the package. It also stabilizes emulsions by helping oil and water remain more evenly distributed, so the texture is less likely to separate.
A formulation study of a dispersion of this copolymer in isohexadecane found self-gelling, thickening, and oily-phase emulsifying properties in emulsion gels. That result describes the tested formula at defined concentrations and in a specific combination; it does not show that the copolymer by itself moisturizes, treats, or improves skin.
ACRYLAMIDE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYLTAURATE COPOLYMER: conditions and care
In the European Union, polyacrylamides must meet a maximum residual acrylamide content of 0.1 mg/kg in leave-on body products and 0.5 mg/kg in other products. This limit concerns residual acrylamide, not the amount of copolymer in the formula.
