What it is

Labels containing “500 ppm” state an amount of the corresponding form rather than a new INCI name. Crosspolymers, ferments, and peptide or other conjugates remain separate because they have their own structures and names.

What it does in a formula

The four forms are used mainly for humectant and skin-conditioning functions. Hyaluronic Acid also carries antistatic and moisturising functions; the hydrolysed form adds hair conditioning; Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate is classified as a humectant.

In an ingredient list, “hydrolyzed”, “sodium”, and “acetylated” are meaningful qualifiers. They point to hydrolysis, formation of the sodium salt, and acetylation respectively.
